01:59: living without a plan, day 1
Thus far this exercise has consisted of watching some non-challenging media, ringing my Evil Siamese Twin (who has not answered mail for months, but appears to be in good form, and to have absorbed the likelihood of my being in her vicinity May and deem that a good; I have not seen her in person in well over a decade), going to the bank like an adult, going stationery-shopping in which I solved a fair bit of stress by going first to the university bookstore at my previous place of work who actually had exactly the notepads I want (spiral bound at the top, lined, with a margin, I would have thought should not be that difficult, but just about everywhere here wants to do either all sidebound all the time or holes punched in the margin as if you were going to pull pages out and put them in something sidebound, which... the margin is where the most important stuff goes. Have none of these people ever seen Yes Minister ?), headed downtown with a vague intention of checking out the newly opened Five Guys on a half-remembered notion of someone saying they were good but beating a hasty retreat at their lack of even half-way comfortable places to sit, going to Oyster Shack to try out their clam chowder, which I actually got this time (it was so-so) and have a catfish burger which managed the uncommon trick of being both too spicy-hot and bland at the same time (I can like catfish, but it would seem I do not yet have a good map on the space of how I like it done), did a little impractical foodshopping, came home and had various different distinct forms of cheering chats with livredor, daharyn and another friend WINOLJ, spent the last five hours reading, and am now having shepherd's pie for supper at nearly 2 am because I can. Not, alas, in a position to swing round to an ideal-for-rysmiel's timescale entirely because of work Monday.

I did not, in there, get the housecleaning I wanted to do this weekend, so some of that will slip over to other days; also, given the ho-humness of lunch out, I am tempted to think in terms of going to Reuben's on Sunday for poutine AND mushrooms AND cheesecake. So it may not be a perfectly unplanned weekend after all.

Still not forgotten to water the jasmine, either.

Now that is clever. Me, I have managed to buy a hot sauce which is (a) hot enough to satisfy but (b) frankly unpleasant to taste - which combination I would never have anticipated. We live and learn.

Five Guys had great fries, copiously provided: they put everything in a paper bag, and for fries, they put in a paper cup that they've scooped full and then dump on top an equal amount. Order a small unless you haven't eaten in a week.

Five Guys is good, but I don't think it's better than any of your other options. Worth checking out at some point for reference but no rush.

Go enjoy Reuben's for me. :)

Ah, the right notebooks. I'm off to a difficult start because I want mine quad-ruled. And then I like paper heavy enough that modern roller-ball inks (even in heavy widths) don't soak through. And I need spiral bound, so it opens flat. Oh, and I don't like ones where the covers are so flimsy I can't write on them in my lap, but need a table under them.

The current Cambridge brand pad has weird off-white paper, and the ruling lines aren't that beautiful cyan, unfortunately. AND they cost about 5 times as much as basic graph paper books.

Trying to work with the Wrong Sort of notepad is beyond unsettling, ugh, at least some of your unplanned plans went well, other than catfish *squish*
